Coinbase released a WP Plugin to enable websites accept major cryptocurrencies in WooCommerce

Coinbase has been extremely busy these days, after having announced the introduction of Sterling Pound to it’s UK customers, now it seems that their commerce division is all over the place with a new plugin that will enable Wordpress / WooCommerce website owners to directly enable cryptocurrency payments, in a move that will put Coinbase in direct competition with several cryptocurrency online payments startups.

The plugin was announced in a new blog post from Coinbase, and the plugin code is available on GitHub.

Coinbase Commerce is one of the first non-custodial cryptocurrency payment solutions that enables merchants anywhere in the world to accept cryptocurrency payments directly from their customers. We’ve been hard at work the past few weeks and are happy to announce a WooCommerce plugin and a few other new features.

For now the plugin only works with Bitcoin and Litecoin but Coinbase said it’s working on enabling similar functionality for Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash.
